The Indians (10-4) moved to 3-1 in Centennial League play as it sprints down the final stretch of the season, composed of solely league competition.
11 different Indians scored in the contest, but it was junior Kat Ball who led the Indians' all-around dominant effort. 69传媒69传媒檚 versatile guard compiled 14 points.
69传媒淲e69传媒檝e started to play (Ball) on the other team69传媒檚 main ball handler and she does such a good job of staying in front of them,69传媒 head coach Scott Mall said.
The Spartans (2-12) have struggled in their first year under Taylor Scott and 69传媒, one of 6A69传媒檚 top teams, proved to be too much to handle for an inexperienced Emporia team. The Indians forced 24 turnovers by the Emporia offense.
69传媒淲e want to open in a press to get ourselves moving and to get things started and it worked for that,69传媒 Mall said.
69传媒69传媒檚 defense forced a handful of turnovers to open the game, including three steals from Ball. Peabody, coming off a career-high on Tuesday, had six early points as the Indians jumped to an early 12-2 advantage.
69传媒(Peabody) is being really aggressive, (Emporia) was leaving an opening for her to get to the basket and she took advantage of it,69传媒 Mall said. 69传媒淪he gets to a lot of balls, so she69传媒檚 going to get steals, rebounds and buckets off those because she69传媒檚 so active.69传媒
Avery Ingram, the Indians' 50% 3-point shooter, checked in and connected from beyond the arc. Peabody and Larson led the Indians69传媒 scoring in the first frame as 69传媒 led 21-4.
In the second quarter, Emporia settled in and put together a defensive run to slow the bleeding, closing its deficit to 13 points. However, 69传媒 overthrew the momentum switch and entered halftime with a 32-16 lead.
69传媒淚 really intended to work on some other defenses but it just didn69传媒檛 seem to work out during the game,69传媒 Mall said.
69传媒 has seven different scorers in the first half, led by 10 from Peabody. The junior duo of Ball and Larson trailed the senior with six points each.
Any little adjustments that needed to be made during the break were tutored by Mall, who earned career win No. 502. The Indians quickly jumped to their largest lead of the night, clearing the 20-point threshold early in the third.
69传媒淚69传媒檝e been around a long time, I usually say my teams have more wins than I deserve, but not as many as I should69传媒檝e had if I did a better job,69传媒 Mall said humbly on the achievement. 69传媒淭hese girls only play for three or four years, it69传媒檚 their time, not mine.69传媒
Ball had her best-scoring quarter with eight points, including a buzzer-beater that sent 69传媒 into the final frame with a 52-24 lead. The large lead allowed 69传媒 to showcase its bench depth with a running clock across the final minutes.
Up next for 69传媒 is a top-tier league matchup on Tuesday against Washburn Rural. The Lady Junior Blues, featuring highly touted K-State commit Maddie Vickery, also own a record of 10-4.
