A St. Marys woman on Friday died after a train struck her.
Kansas Highway Patrol officials reported that 45-year-old Virginia Marie Enockson of St. Marys stood on the train tracks intersecting North First Street in St. Marys when a train traveling west crashed into her.
Officials said Enockson was on the tracks facing south as the train approached. The impact with the train fatally wounded her. Officials said they notified next of kin at the scene of the accident. Enockson was taken to Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys.
Officials didn69传媒檛 say why Enockson was on the tracks. The accident occurred around 8:52 p.m. about 200 feet north of U.S. Highway 24.
Engineer Marios Dillard and conductor David Pinzon operated the train involved.
